The Assault and Rape Minimization (ARM) Program is an on-going program provided by Skip Hall who
authored ARM several years ago. ARM was requested by several individuals to fill the gap of realistic
sexual assault and rape training. Skip has taught ARM to thousands of people including IBM Corporation,
Southern Company Services, AAA, GMAC, HealthSouth, Powerhouse Gym and other corporations and
individual groups. Instructor training is also taught by Mr. Hall.
Mr. Hall researched the victim, the offender, the conditions and the post-incident period to help develop
the ARM program. He also attended and reviewed numerous Self-Defense and Rape prevention courses
before developing the highly effective and acclaimed ARM program. ARM is not just another self-defense
class where the attendee hits and kicks someone in a padded suit about the body and groin. It arms the
attended with preventive and resistive skills and highly effective but simple techniques.
The typical ARM class is 2 hours long comprised of about 25% lecture and the remainder with action
packed physical technique training. Anyone that can walk can learn and participate in an ARM class. Ages
accepted are 12 years old and older. Both males and females are invited to attend.

The ASSAULT and RAPE MINIMIZATION (ARM) Program
|
EVERY 45 SECONDS A SEXUAL ASSAULT OCCURS
EVERY 1 MINUTE 1.3 WOMEN ARE RAPED
EVERY 5 MINUTES A RAPE IS REPORTED.
1 IN 3 WOMEN AROUND THE WORLD HAVE BEEN BEATEN, COERCED INTO SEX, OR OTHERWISE
ABUSED IN HER LIFETIME. (JOHN HOPKINS SCHOOL OF HEALTH 2000)
IN AMERICA THE RATE IS 1 IN 6 WOMEN.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
THERE ARE MANY MYTHS ABOUT SEXUAL ASSAULT AND RAPE. THE TRUTH IS:
45% OF THE RAPE IS WITHIN THE SAME RACE.
50% OF RAPE AND SEXUAL ASSAULT IS INTRA-FAMILIAL (WITHIN THE SAME FAMILY)
25% OF RAPE IS WITH REPEAT VICTIMS
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2/3 OF ALL RAPE OCCURS BETWEEN THE HOURS OF 6PM AND 6AM.
MAJORITY OF ALL RAPE IS SOMEWHERE YOU OFTEN FREQUENT OR CLOSE TO THAT LOCATION
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
RAPISTS USUALLY RAPE 14 TIMES BEFORE THEY ARE CAUGHT.
ONLY 37% OF RAPE VICTIMS REPORT TO THE POLICE
ONLY 2% OF THE CASES RESULT IN CONVICTIONS
¼ OF RAPE AND SEXUAL ASSAULT VICTIMS ARE UNDER 12 YEARS OLD.
3 OUT OF 5 OF THE RAPES OCCUR BEFORE A WOMAN REACHES 18 YEARS OLD
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
THE U.S. AS A COUNTRY IS NOT SETTING A GOOD STANDARD
13X MORE SEXUAL ASSAULTS and RAPES THAN ENGLAND
20X MORE SEXUAL ASSAULTS and RAPES THAN JAPAN
4X MORE SEXUAL ASSAULTS and RAPES THAN GERMANY
BUT, SOUTH AFRICA IS #1 WITH 41% OF THE CHILDREN OF THAT COUNTRY BEING RAPED.
REMEMBER:
The reason for using physical resistance is to add a method to resisting Assault & Rape.
The more resistance types you use, the better chance you have for escape.
The very last thing you do and what you are trying to accomplish with resistance
is TO ESCAPE!
Rendering the offender/assailant helpless is NOT what you are trying to do with
Physical Resistance.
REMEMBER – ESCAPE IS THE OBJECTIVE OF ANY RESISTANCE.
A. DISCUSS & SHOW PRESSURE POINTS of the ENTIRE BODY.
Demonstrate the Ulnar Nerve and Between the Thumb Pressure points.
B. DISCUSS WHY (and IF YOU DO) THAT A GUY’S GROIN IS NOT A GOOD
TARGET.
C. DISCUSS WHY THE BRACHIAL FLAP IS AN EXCELLENT TARGET TO PENETRATE
vs WHY THE EYES ARE NOT.
D. DISCUSS WHY KICKING MAY ALSO NOT BE A GOOD PHYSICAL DEFENSE.
E. DISCUSS & EXPLAIN (DEMONSTRATE) THE CIRCLE DEFENSE ZONE.
----------------- The Techniques -----------------
1. Breakaway & Thumb Forefinger Weakness. Explain and Demonstrate how to escape from a wrist
grab by twisting and rotating your wrist as you escape the hold.
2. Single Side Wrist Grab Escape:
a. Show how you Turn your wrist inward and palm upward as you break the hold.
b. Show how you raise and turn offenders hand up exposing the radial nerve area as you
use your other hand and strike the radial nerve area with your knuckle. Use the MIDDLE
KNUCKLE STRIKE.
c. Step in to opponent, bend elbow 90degrees as you do, make a knife hand and squat as you drive
your arm and hand straight down below opponents belt.
d. Turn you wrist inward in an arcing motion, then swing it outside in an arcing motion and upwards.
When your wrist reaches your chest level, turn your entire wrist inward across opponents hand and
twist freeing your hand.
IF YOUR OPPONENT IS YOUR HEIGHT, drive his arm and hand back INTO his face as
people will let go of anything if it is directed towards their face.e. Simply bring your
elbow upwards as you drive your entire arm – elbow first- directly into your opponent.
Do this with the focus being driving the elbow into the opponents solar plexus as you
bring your hand and arm upwards.
3. Cross Wrist Grab:
a. Bring your hand up and inward raising your opponents arm even with your chest. As you turn his
hand/arm inward, grab the back of his wrist/forearm with your hand and step in and strike the back of
his elbow with your other (non-grabbed) hand.
4. Two hands Grab One Hand:
a. Make a fist with the captured hand. Reach in with the other hand and grab your captured hand.
RAISE your captured fist as you drive the elbow of your other arm INTO opponents’ solar plexus and
face.
b. Turn the captured wrist outside as you turn it, raise it and drive it back over and downward into
opponents’ wrists.
5. Two Hands Grab Two Wrists:
a. Slightly raise one arm and drive turn your hand inward as you drive your opponents’ hand on that
wrist down into the back of opponents’ other hand along the radial nerve. This is easier if you twist your
body when you do it.
b. Raise both of your arms and turn your hands/wrists inward as you drive the back of your opponents’
hands into each other.
6. Side Shoulder Grab:
Look and identify opponent, clamp his hand with your opposite side hand. Drive the captured arm
upwards and into opponents face as you swing it up and over his arm that is holding your shoulder.
Circle his arm and continue downward and up inside until your arm is free. This is dangerous to your
partners’ arm if you are practicing this technique. SO BE CAREFUL.
7. Hair Grab:
Clamp opponents’ hand with your hand using the opposite arm than what the opponent uses. Then
clamp on top of that your other hand. Step backwards with one leg as you drop downward and twist TO
THE SIDE THAT THE OPPONENTS’ ARM IS HOLDING YOUR HAIR.
8. Front Bear Hug:
The key is OVER THE ARMS and UNDER THE ARMS. If your arms are free then puncture the bracial
flap or elbow opponent in the face. Or, use the one hand to the face followed by the other hand and
push opponent away. REMEMBER that no one likes having their face touched by others hands,
especially aggressively.
If your arms are not free then you must DROP your height, by lowering your fanny in a quick and
abrupt squat, simultaneously raising your arms outward as if your were bunny hopping forward. Twist
as you do and then when the grip is loosened stay low and escape.
9. Rear Bear Hug:
Again the key is whether or not your arms are free. If they are free, then use your elbows and strike
opponents face. Twist as you do to put more force into the strikes and create immediate space.
If your arms are not free then you must drop your level as you did in the front bear hug, then complete
the technique by stepping to the side as you are lowering your position and twisting to escape.
10. On The Ground:
a. The key is to keep one knee up. Regardless of what occurs, what position, what is being done with
the hands and arms, KEEP ONE OF YOUR KNEES UP BETWEEN YOU AND YOUR ASSAILANT.
b. If you are face down, keep one leg bent upwards (knee on the ground and foot in the air). Again
regardless of what occurs, what position, what is being done with the hands and arms, KEEP ONE OF
YOUR LEGS BENT UPWARDS BETWEEN YOU AND YOUR ASSAILANT.
